Premium Quiz: Which countries came closest to qualifying for this year’s World Cup?
In recent weeks, football fans have quite naturally been talking about the countries playing at the World Cup. All participants except the hosts had to make it through qualifying. Among the nations that didn’t qualify, some were nowhere near the tournament, while others still had hopes of reaching it right until the very end of qualifying. In this quiz, we’ll take a look at those countries.
More specifically, these will be countries that reached the final stage in their confederations or finished just short of direct qualification:
AFC - Teams from the 4th round of qualifying CAF - The best second-placed teams that reached the World Cup play-off (DR Congo won) CONCACAF - Second-placed teams in the group CONMEBOL - 7th and 8th team in the table OFC - Teams that reached the World Cup play-off (New Zealand won) UEFA - Teams that played in the World Cup play-offs (qualified: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Turkey, Czechia)
Once you start the quiz, you’ll see only the confederation in the left column; an optional hint will reveal the first letter of the country’s name.
How will you do?
