Football history is rich, and many fans often refer back to the early days of their favourite club, proud of the journey the team has been on, what it has won… But only a few people really have an idea of how old the clubs actually are. Over the coming weeks we’ll gradually go through all the TOP 5 leagues, where you’ll try to sort the clubs of the 2026/27 season from the oldest as accurately as possible.

We’ll start with the Bundesliga, where you’ll find a club whose roots go back to 1887, but also one founded as recently as 2009.

After launching the quiz, you’ll see a reference date in the left column and the individual teams on the right. You’ll try to rearrange the teams in what seems the most correct order, and once you’re done, you’ll have it checked to see how accurate you were. Of course, if you know a team’s exact founding date (it often even appears in the badge), that’s an advantage compared to the value in the left column. Only the years matter, so you don’t have to worry whether one team was founded in June and another in November—it won’t affect your score. For some teams it’s disputed when they were founded, or there may have been a rename at some point… In those cases, the older date commonly used by the club itself was usually chosen.

This quiz is a bit about luck, but when you finish it gives a nice overview of the age of the individual teams. How will you do? And is there anyone whose long/short history surprised you?
