While on the pitch the game we call football is a universal language you can master even without words, in written text it can be different from country to country. Of course, in many places football is called something similar, just spelled differently, but there are also countries where, without context, you’d hardly connect the word with football at all. In today’s quiz you’ll see whether you can guess what football is called in selected countries.

Once you start the quiz, you’ll see 16 countries in the left column and 16 translations of the word “football” in the right. The task is simple: match the country from the left column to the name in the right column. Some countries have an asterisk, which means the term was transliterated from another script into the Latin alphabet (according to Google Translate).

I split the quiz into two parts, so you can look forward to the second one in about two weeks.
