While a large part of the football world is focused on what’s happening at the top of the best league competitions, one level below there’s a battle over who will get the chance next year to show themselves among the country’s elite.

In this quiz, we’ll focus on the teams that are fighting (or fought) this season for promotion to the Top 5 leagues—more precisely, those that finished no lower than eighth. In Spain and Germany, the regular season is still being played, so the order in the quiz reflects the current standings. If you get stuck, the hint will reveal the first letter of the club’s commonly used name.

And just for info, so you have an overview of the clubs’ promotion chances:

Championship - The first two teams have guaranteed promotion; 4th and 6th are in the play-off final.

LaLiga2 - A very long competition with three rounds still to be played. The top two secure direct promotion; clubs in 3rd-6th will play in the play-offs.

2. Bundesliga - The final round is played on Sunday. Direct promotion goes to the top two teams; third place will play for a spot in the top flight against the 16th-placed Bundesliga team.

Serie B - We’ll see the top two teams in Serie A next season. Teams from 3rd-8th made the play-offs, where the third team faces the seventh and the fourth faces the fifth. The teams in sixth and eighth have already been eliminated.

Ligue 2 - The top two teams have celebrated promotion. The fourth team beat the fifth team and will now play the third team to decide who will face the 16th-placed Ligue 1 team.
